Özet

The Government of the Republic of Turkey has been placing increasing emphasis on the rectification of inter-regional disparity in the Country's socio-economic development. The Department of Less Developed Regions was established in 1971 within the State Planning Organization (SPO), and the highest priority was attached to the Eastern and the Southeastern Anatolia regions bordering on USSR, Iran, lraq and Syria.
